Champions announced – ‘Best of Honduras: Late Harvest’ auction

Table of Contents

The champions and finalists of the Project Origin ‘Best of Honduras: Late Harvest’ auction have been announced today in a ceremony at the IHCAFE facility in Peña Blanca, Honduras.

In the mountains of Santa Barbara, Honduras more than 30 judges have been working on an International Jury to cup, score and find the best coffees of the late harvest of Honduras.

The judges, split into Shadow and Experienced categories, cupped these coffees and shared their results to find an average score for each. After several days of tasting and scoring, we have our top 20 coffees, which will be released to a live online auction via the Cropster Hub on July 28, 0800 Honduras time (Sunday, 0000 AEST). There are also 18 non-auction lots, available for direct purchase.

These ‘late harvest’ coffees are unique for their growing conditions in small microclimates across Honduras, causing slow development and maturation. This results in developed sweetness and acidity, as well as an elegant flavour profile.

The top scoring coffee of the auction was a washed parainema from Finca La Joya, grown by producer Benigno Mejia Garcia and scored at 90.72 points.

The top 10 scoring coffees are as follows:

#1 – Finca La Joya, Begigno Mejia Garcia (90.72)
#2 – La Montañita, Evin Joel Moreno Reyes (90.67)
#3 – Las Bojitas, Jose Abel Giron Duron (90.17)
#4 – El Milagrito, Pedro Erazo (90.11)
#5 – Los Ocotes, Nahun Vidal Sanches (89.44)
#6 – Paraideli, Oscar Daniel Ramirez Chavez (89.17)
#7 – Chaguite, Isidro Rodriguez Matute (89.11)
#8 – El Cielito #2, Reynaldo Muñoz Lopez (88.72)
#9 – San Andres, Andres Fernandez Madrid (88.50)
#10 – La Demetrio, Jorge Adalid Nicolas Morales (88.28)
